Privacy Policy

Deutsche Fassung: Datenschutzerklärung

1. Controller

Controller within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Ernst Bablick, Buchenweg 7, 93479 Grafenwiesen, Germany
Email: ernst (@) bablick.de, phone: +49 (0)176 78776725

No data protection officer has been appointed; the legal requirements for doing so are not met.

2. Hosting and server log files

This site is hosted by IONOS SE, Elgendorfer Str. 57, 56410 Montabaur, Germany. When you visit the site, the server automatically records information that your browser transmits: IP address, date and time of the request, the page requested, the referring page, the amount of data transferred, browser type and version, and operating system. This is technically necessary to deliver the site and to keep it stable and secure. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is the secure and reliable operation of the site. The log files are kept only as long as needed for these purposes and are then deleted. A data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place with IONOS.

3. Visitor statistics (WP Statistics)

To learn which articles are read, I use the WordPress plugin WP Statistics. It runs on this server only; no data is passed to third parties. WP Statistics does not set cookies and stores nothing on your device. It records the page visited, the referring page, browser and operating system, and an anonymised and hashed form of your IP address, from which you cannot be identified. Before the IP address is anonymised, it is used once to determine your approximate location (country, region and city) from a geolocation database stored on this server; no data leaves the server for this. Individual visit records are aggregated into summary statistics after 180 days. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR; my legitimate interest is a privacy-friendly evaluation of how the site is used. You may object to this processing at any time (see section 8).

4. Contact by email or phone

If you contact me by email or phone, I process the data you provide (such as name, email address, phone number and the content of your message) to handle your request. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR where your request relates to a contract or to pre-contractual steps, and Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR otherwise; my legitimate interest is answering your request. The data is deleted once your request has been dealt with, unless statutory retention obligations apply.

5. Embedded YouTube videos

Some articles may contain embedded YouTube videos. YouTube is a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. To protect your privacy, an embedded video is not loaded when you open the page; you first see only a placeholder. Only when you click it to play the video does your browser connect to YouTube. YouTube then receives at least your IP address and the page you are on, and may set cookies or similar technologies on your device and link the visit to your Google account if you are logged in.

The legal basis is your consent, given by clicking the placeholder (Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR, § 25 (1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time with effect for the future, for example by deleting the cookies in your browser. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA; Google is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, on the basis of the European Commission’s adequacy decision (Art. 45 GDPR). Details: Google privacy policy.

6. Links to other websites and social networks

This site contains plain links to external sites, including GitHub, LinkedIn, YouTube, X and Bluesky. Apart from embedded videos (section 5), no content is loaded from these services when you view this site; data is only transmitted to them when you click a link. From then on, the privacy policy of the respective provider applies.

7. Encryption

This site uses TLS encryption (recognisable by “https://” in the address bar), so data you transmit cannot be read by third parties.

8. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR on grounds relating to your particular situation (Art. 21). To exercise these rights, an email to the address above is sufficient.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77 GDPR). The authority responsible for me is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA), Promenade 18, 91522 Ansbach, Germany.
